Former Obama aide on Time claim: Trump ‘so needy for approval’

A former aide to President Obama ripped President Trump on Saturday after Trump tweeted that he turned down Time magazine’s offer to be “Person of the Year” in 2017.

Former White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said it was “sad” that Trump would be “so needy for approval” after the president tweeted that he had rejected Time’s offer.

“This Tweet is so sad. Imagine being super rich, President of the United States, and still being so needy for approval,” Pfeiffer wrote.

Pfeiffer’s comments come after the magazine denied the president’s claim that he was offered the coveted award for the second year in a row, but declined the offer.

Trump tweeted Friday that he turned down the distinction because “probably is no good.”

“Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named ‘Man (Person) of the Year,’ like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!” Trump tweeted.

The magazine responded Friday night, denying Trump’s claim and stating that it doesn’t make the determination for the award until December.

“The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year. TIME does not comment on our choice until publication, which is December 6,” the magazine tweeted.

Trump was previously named “Person of the Year” in 2016, which, at the time, Trump called an “honor.”
