Dem lawmaker accuses Trump of inciting hatred: ‘The solution is impeachment’

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) blasted President Trump on the House floor Wednesday following Trump re-tweeting several anti-Muslim videos, saying “anyone who incites hate ought to be … removed from a position such that they can harm society.”

“When hate emanates from the highest office in the land … when hate emanates from the presidency, the solution is impeachment,” Green said. “Impeachment will be voted on before Christmas.”

{mosads}Green’s floor speech came after Trump re-tweeted a series of videos Wednesday morning purporting to show violent acts by Muslims posted by the leader of the ultranationalist Britain First Party, Jayda Fransen.

Trump faced backlash soon after sharing the videos. British commentator Piers Morgan implored Trump to “stop this madness and undo your retweets,” and Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the U.K.’s Labour Party, called on the British government to condemn Trump’s sharing of the videos.

But Trump also received praise for sharing the videos, including from former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, who said Trump re-tweeting the videos is “why we love him.”

Green announced earlier this month that he plans to force a vote on Trump’s impeachment before Christmas after unveiling articles of impeachment last month.

The Texas Democrat stopped short of forcing a vote at the time, citing a desire for the public to consider the articles before a vote was held.

Green’s impeachment articles do not accuse Trump of committing a crime, but instead state Trump has “undermined the integrity of his office” and “brought disrepute on the presidency.”
