‘Build Kate’s wall’: Richard Spencer leads protesters outside White House

White nationalist leader Richard Spencer led a group of protesters in front of the White House on Sunday after the not guilty verdict in the Kate Steinle trial, according to multiple reports.

A small group of protestors chanted “Build Kate’s Wall,” according to WTOP. Protesters also held signs with the phrase.

WTOP reported there was heavy policy presence and counterprotesters also showed up.

No arrests were made during the event, according to WTOP.

{mosads}The demonstration comes after a Superior Court in San Francisco last week acquitted Jose Ines Garcia Zarate of murder and manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Steinle.

Zarate, who was in the U.S. illegally at the time of the shooting, had previously been deported five times.

The court found Zarate not guilty of first- or second-degree murder or assault with a firearm. He was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm and will be sentenced at a future date.

President Trump and other Republicans used the case as a rallying cry for tougher immigration laws.

Trump last week called the verdict “disgraceful.” On Sunday, he again ripped the decision, calling it a “total miscarriage of Justice.”

Last week, a federal warrant was issued for Zarate’s arrest. The warrant, unsealed in the Western District of Texas by the Justice Department on Friday, accuses Zarate of violating his supervised release. 

Spencer helped to organize a rally in Charlottesville, Va., in August that turned violent and resulted in the death of one person. His speeches have also drawn heavy protests and some universities and other venues have canceled his appearances, citing public safety concerns.
