Ex-Obama transportation chief on Atlanta airport power outage: ‘Total and abject failure’

A former Transportation secretary in the Obama administration ripped Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia for its response to a massive power outage on Sunday.

“Total and abject failure here at ATL Airport today. I am stuck on @delta flight, passengers and crew tolerating it. But there is no excuse for lack of workable redundant power source,” Anthony Foxx tweeted.

Foxx served as Transportation secretary for former President Obama from 2013 to 2017.

{mosads}The Atlanta airport, which is the busiest in the world, lost power earlier Sunday, leaving passengers stranded on planes and inside terminals. The airport canceled over 1,000 flights as a result, and delayed around 200 others, NBC News reported.

275,000 passengers come through the travel hub each day, while 2,500 flights arrive and depart the airport on a daily basis. 

The outage comes one week before Christmas Eve. 

Over 6 million people are expected to travel via airplane this holiday season, according to AAA.
