Poll: Few see Trump’s Twitter use as ‘appropriate’

President Trump has low support for his use of Twitter in office, according to a new poll.

The president’s Twitter use is deemed “appropriate” by just slightly more than 1 in 4 Americans, according to a poll by The Economist and YouGov released Wednesday.

Overall, just 26 percent respondents say they find the president’s prolific Twitter use appropriate, with 59 percent disapproving. Fifteen percent say they aren’t sure.

The president has tweeted more than 2,600 times in 2017, according to TrumpTwitterArchive.com.

The poll also breaks down along party lines, with 87 percent of those identifying as Democrats calling Trump’s tweets inappropriate while 50 percent of Republicans feel the same way. More than 1 in 3 GOP voters — 34 percent — found the tweeting appropriate.

Among independents, 50 percent polled find the president’s Twitter use inappropriate and 29 percent said it was appropriate. Twenty-one percent weren’t sure.

Trump has often argued that social media allows him to get his message out to the public without needing to go through the media, which he often refers to as “fake news.”

“The FAKE MSM is working so hard trying to get me not to use Social Media,” Trump wrote in June to his 45.2 million followers, referring to the mainstream media. “They hate that I can get the honest and unfiltered message out.”

Trump had just eclipsed 20 million followers on Twitter upon taking office. He has since added more than 25 million.
