Graham: Trump can’t just tweet about Iran

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday said President Trump needs to do more than tweet about the ongoing protests in Iran.

“It’s not enough to watch. President Trump is tweeting very sympathetically to the Iranian people. But you just can’t tweet here. You have to lay out a plan,” Graham said on CBS’s “Face The Nation.”

Graham’s comments come as protesters have taken to the streets for each of the last four days throughout Iran to protest economic hardships and alleged government corruption.

{mosads}Graham said on Sunday that he approved of Trump tweeting support for Iranian protesters.

“The Iranian people are not our enemy,” Graham said. “The ayatollah [Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei] is the enemy of the world.”

Graham added that he has encouraged Trump to give a national address to warn Iran that the U.S. will withdraw from the nuclear agreement unless it gets a better deal.

Graham said he had relayed his message to Trump earlier Sunday.

Graham and other Republicans have been frequent critics of the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran. Trump in October moved to decertify the agreement.

Graham said Sunday that the Obama administration’s policies toward Iran haven’t worked, adding that if he were Trump, he’d do the “exact opposite” of former President Obama.
