Obama Team Condemns Mumbai Attacks
President-elect Barack Obama’s national security spokesperson condemned today’s terrorist attacks in Mumbai on Obama’s behalf in a statement sent to reporters.
“President-Elect Obama strongly condemns today’s terrorist attacks in Mumbai, and his thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the people of India. These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism,” Obama Transition Chief National Security Spokesperson Brooke Anderson said this evening.
“The United States must continue to strengthen our partnerships with India and nations around the world to root out and destroy terrorist networks. We stand with the people of India, whose democracy will prove far more resilient than the hateful ideology that led to these attacks.”
An estimated 78 people were killed today in Mumbai after armed terrorists opened fire on a crowded train station and stormed restaurants and luxury hotels, reportedly targeting Americans and Britons and taking hostages in at least one of the hotels.
