Columnist: Trump tweet resulted in thousands of emails

The New York Post’s Michael Goodwin said he received thousands of emails after President Trump tweeted out his email address while praising a column.

Goodwin, who is reportedly friendly with the president, said in a column published late Tuesday that the largest numbers of emails came from people “who are sick with hatred” and insulted Trump and Goodwin.

“Thanks to Trump, we now know who they are. Count that as more proof his is an enormously consequential presidency,” Goodwin wrote.

{mosads}Trump on Sunday night shared an excerpt from another Goodwin column that was posted under the headline “We’re still better off with Trump than Clinton.”

That column acknowledged that Trump has had “missteps” since taking office, but ultimately praised Trump’s performance.

“His is turning out to be an enormously consequential presidency,” Goodwin declared.

However, when Trump tweeted out part of the column, he misquoted it as saying “His is turning out to be an enormously consensual presidency.”

In a subsequent tweet, Trump thanked Goodwin and encouraged followers to read the entire column. But he then placed Goodwin’s email address at the end of the tweet instead of a link to the column.

A short time later, Trump deleted his original two tweets, replacing them with an accurate quote and a link to the column.

“That would eventually work, but not before my in-box got slammed with more than 2,000 emails,” Goodwin wrote.
