CNN political commentator and frequent Trump critic Ana Navarro attacked President Trump on Thursday over his reported remark calling Haiti and some African nations “shithole countries” during a meeting with lawmakers.

Navarro, a former aide to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), accused Trump of turning the Oval Office into a “shithole,” decrying his administration’s “morally bankrupt” position on immigration.

“It tells you just how shamelessly racist he is,” Navarro asserted. “This is not something he’s saying in the dark of night. This is not something that he’s thinking in his head.”

“Let me tell you, you know why he doesn’t like the visa lottery?” Navarro asked. “Because it’s the way Africans come here. You know why he doesn’t like TPS, temporary protected status? Because right now it covers Haitians, it covers Salvadorans. You know what Haitians and Salvadorans have in common? They are in completely different parts of the world … [but] they are black. They are black.”

“Donald Trump has shown us his dark heart, has shown us his racism,” Navarro continued. “I am as desperate as anyone for there to be a [Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals] deal, for there to be a deal on Dreamers. But we cannot normalize the fact that Donald Trump has turned the Oval Office into a shithole — into a morally bankrupt place where there are lies and division and racism that comes out every single day.”

Navarro’s tough criticism comes after similar remarks from CNN host Anderson Cooper, who called Trump’s remarks racist in a monologue Thursday at the top of his show, “Anderson Cooper 360.”

“Let’s not kid ourselves. Let’s not pretend or dance around it,” Cooper said. “The sentiment the president expressed today is a racist sentiment.”

Trump faced heavy, bipartisan criticism for the remarks, reportedly made Thursday during a meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform.

The White House issued a statement to The Washington Post following the newspaper’s report of the comments and did not deny Trump’s use of the term “shithole.”

“Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people,” White House spokesman Raj Shah said in a statement.
