Clinton Asks for Franken Recount Help
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) today sent an e-mail to supporters asking them to donate to Democrat Al Franken’s campaign to unseat Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.).
A statewide recount is set to begin next week in the narrow race, as Coleman leads Franken by 206 votes according to the latest count.
Clinton asked supporters to help Franken “keep his campaign active to stop the Republican attacks and make Minnesotans’ voices are heard.” Both Franken and Coleman have set up so-called “recount funds” to monitor vote counting with staffers placed in Minnesota counties next week.
“In the coming days, Minnesota officials will carefully count every vote to make sure they get the most accurate count possible. But once again, Republicans want to interfere any way they can with the vote-counting. They’re setting up legal challenges and questioning the voting officials’ integrity,” Clinton wrote. “This time we’re ready. The Franken Campaign is working hard to make sure every vote is counted — but they need our help.”
Both Coleman and Franken have taken legal action to affect vote-counting procedures, angering their critics. Coleman’s campaign reportedly filed an injunction Saturday to prevent the counting of 32
