Chuck Todd: It’s difficult to take the level of ‘crazy’ of this White House

NBC News

NBC’s Chuck Todd on Thursday unloaded on the Trump administration during “Meet The Press Daily,” saying in a lengthy monologue that the Trump presidency was akin to a “parody” of a real administration.

“It feels like we’ve reached a level of crazy in the White House, and it’s difficult to take it anymore,” Todd began. “Reality TV appearances, tabloid gossip, conspiracy theories, name-calling, vulgarities and a level of egomania few have ever seen in Washington. And that’s saying something.”

“It’s like we’re living inside a parody,” Todd added. ” ‘What would happen if Donald Trump became president? Omarosa would probably work in the West Wing! And then she’d leave to go on Big Brother to dish about administration secrets! Ha!’ … Oh wait. That happened.”

Todd’s comments came in response to a clip featuring former Trump aide Omarosa Manigault-Newman on the reality show “Celebrity Big Brother,” which went viral earlier in the day.

In the clip, which Todd played on his show, Manigault-Newman talks with a fellow “Big Brother” contestant about her experiences in the White House. She says she was concerned about President Trump’s Twitter habits and warned her fellow contestant that things “are going to not be OK” for the U.S. under Trump.

“Folks, we’re not even surprised by this stuff any more,” Todd said. “Just think about what we’ve seen, or endured, over the past 13 months of this presidency. The Twitter battles with a rival nuclear power, members of his own party, the special counsel, TV hosts, a Gold Star widow, the Justice Department, mayors, senators, governors, our allies and many people in between.”

Todd went on to list a number of Trump scandals, including his alleged payout to a porn star over an affair and controversies over his statements about neo-Nazis, before finishing with a final condemnation of Trump’s administration.

“All of this is the legacy of our country’s first reality TV star president,” Todd said. “Where everything is personal, and it’s all about the show.”
