House Dem asks Trump to ‘get off his ass’ to do something about school shooting

Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) called on Wednesday for President Trump to “get off his ass” and work with lawmakers to address the rash of shootings in U.S. schools.

Responding to a tweet from the president offering condolences for those affected by a deadly shooting at a South Florida high school on Wednesday, Moulton said he is on board with Trump’s claim that “no child, teacher or anyone else should ever feel unsafe in an American school.”

“I agree with every word @realDonaldTrump said here,” Moulton tweeted. “I invite him to get off his ass and join me in trying to do something about it.”

The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., left at least 17 people dead, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

Police arrested the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student at the school who had been expelled.

Democrats have repeatedly pushed for stricter gun control laws as a way to curb the frequency of mass shootings, especially at schools.

In October, shortly after a shooter opened fire on a Las Vegas music festival, Moulton tweeted at House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), urging him to allow a debate on gun control measures.

@SpeakerRyan, how many Americans have to die before you do your job? Allow us to have a debate and a vote,” he wrote. “You’re letting America down.”
