Parks and Rec writer: US is full of Leslie Knopes, Lisa Simpsons who will take NRA down

A “Parks and Recreation” writer fired back at the National Rifle Association (NRA) and Republicans who have recently made viral references to the show following a deadly high school shooting.

Megan Amram, who has also written for “The Simpsons” and several other comedies, tweeted Thursday that the Leslie Knopes and Lisa Simpsons of the world are going to “take them down,” referring to the NRA and GOP.

“I’m glad the GOP and NRA know who Leslie Knope and Lisa Simpson are because the country is full of Leslies and Lisas who will TAKE THEM DOWN,” she tweeted.”

{mosads}The NRA on Wednesday praised spokeswoman Dana Loesch by tweeting a gif of fictional politician Leslie Knope from “Parks and Recreation,” prompting the show’s writers and actors to respond. The tweet came after Loesch had defended gun rights and the NRA during a CNN town hall about the tragic shooting at a south Florida high school last week that left 17 dead and 14 others injured.

“Take it down and also please eat shit,” actor Nick Offerman tweeted.

And during a Thursday appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called Democrats “the party of Lisa Simpson.”

“Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and Republicans are happily the party of Homer, Bart, Maggie and Marge,” he said.

Twitter users immediately mocked Cruz for the comment.
