South Florida billionaire: I won’t give any money to politicians who don’t support gun control

A South Florida billionaire is vowing to halt donations to politicians unless they support gun control.

Mike Fernandez said he won’t support “any politician that does not revisit their value system as it pertains to weapons,” WLRN reported.

“I will not give one cent to anyone who does not support major change regarding military-type weapons being sold — age limits, ammunition size, magazine capacity,” he told the Miami TV station. “It’s impossible not to be touched by what happened and moved into action.”

{mosads}Fernandez has in the past donated to multiple Republican politicians, including to Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s 2014 reelection bid, WLRN reported.

His comments come after 17 people were killed earlier this month when a gunman opened fire at a high school in Parkland, Fla.

Students who survived the shooting have since become vocal advocates for gun control, demanding that lawmakers take action to prevent school shootings.

President Trump last week tweeted that he would be pushing for comprehensive background checks and ending the sale of bump stocks.

Trump also expressed support for arming teachers in schools to prevent future shootings.

Scott, however, said on Sunday he doesn’t support arming teachers, saying instead there needs to be a focus on people who are “well-trained, law enforcement that are trained to do this.”
