In Maine, Collins and Obama Both Lead By Double Digits

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has a large lead in her re-election race against Rep. Tom Allen (D), according to the Portland Press Herald.

Collins leads 57 percent to 36 percent in a survey released Tuesday. The poll was conducted by Pan Atlantic SMS Group, a market research company based in Portland, Maine.

In the presidential race, Barack Obama leads John McCain 51 percent to 39 percent. (Though Maine awards one electoral vote to the winner of each of its two congressional districts, the poll only reported results for the entire state.)

The margin of error for the Senate and the presidential polls is 4.9 percent.

In the race for Allen’s House seat, Democrat Chellie Pingree leads Republican Charlie Summers 43 percent to 32 percent. The margin of error the survey of the House race is 6.8 percentage points.
