The Daily Show jokes Trump’s new legal counsel is a TV

Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” tweeted on Thursday that President Trump would replace his departing senior legal counsel John Dowd with a television set that plays clips from Fox News on repeat.

The late night show, home of “The World’s Fakest News Team,” tweeted a mock White House press release on the same day Dowd announced his resignation from leading Trump’s personal legal team.

“The President is pleased to announce that Mr. Dowd will be replaced as lead counsel by a 75-inch Samsung Special Edition QLED 4K Television that will play clips of Fox News commentators repeating the phrase “no collusion” on a 24-hour loop,” the press release reads.

“This would be really funny if it weren’t so sad. Actually, it is really funny. And sad,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) responded to The Daily Show’s tweet.

Dowd’s abrupt departure comes as Trump faces a potential interview with the special counsel investigating Russian influence in the 2016 election.

Just days before his resignation, Dowd called on the deputy attorney general to “bring an end” to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Trump, who has maintained that there was “no collusion” between his 2016 campaign and Russian operatives, is an avid watcher of Fox News programs including the morning show “Fox & Friends.”

“The television has accepted the president’s appointment, and is excited to get started as soon as senior advisor Jared Kushner mounts it to the wall,” the phony press release said, poking fun at Trump’s son-in-law.
