Anti-abortion group backs school walkout following gun protests
A national anti-abortion organization is throwing its support behind a school walkout to protest abortion organized following nationwide walkouts over gun violence.
Students for Life of America said in a statement Wednesday that it is offering “resources, legal help and training” for students participating in the walkout on April 11.
The walkout is being organized by a California high school student, Brandon Gillespie, after his history teacher was put on administrative leave when she asked whether there was a double standard over school walkouts to protest gun violence and to protest abortion.
{mosads}Students from coast to coast and even other nations participated in anti-gun violence walkout protests on March 14, one month after the Parkland, Fla., school shooting that left 17 people dead.
“I just want to spread awareness about the cruel things that are happening in Planned Parenthood clinics across the country, the cruel murder of these children who have done nothing wrong,” Gillespie said in a statement distributed by Students for Life of America.
Students for Life said other “leading pro-family and pro-life organizations” will also be supporting the walkout.
“Every day, Planned Parenthood violently ends the lives of 880 children,” said Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, in a statement. “Every day, Planned Parenthood targets this generation in school and online to trap us in their predatory business cycle. And for many of us, every day, we are silent, but Enough is Enough.”
