Trump says Comey ‘threw McCabe under the bus’

President Trump on Thursday taunted former FBI Director James Comey and ex-Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, saying Comey threw his recently fired former colleague “under the bus.”

“James Comey just threw Andrew McCabe ‘under the bus.’ Inspector General’s Report on McCabe is a disaster for both of them! Getting a little (lot) of their own medicine?” Trump tweeted.

Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz submitted a criminal referral recently recommending criminal charges be considered for McCabe, who was fired last month.

{mosads}The referral came after the inspector general concluded that McCabe had lied to internal investigators and Comey about his contacts with the media during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Comey could be a witness in a potential criminal case against McCabe, the former FBI director said in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Thursday afternoon.

“Given that the IG’s report reflects interactions that Andy McCabe had with me and other senior executives, I could well be a witness,” Comey told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Comey said he feels “conflicted” about the inspector general’s report on McCabe.

“I like him very much as a person, but sometimes even good people do things they shouldn’t do,” he said.

“It’s not acceptable in the FBI or the justice department for people to lack candor,” he added. “It’s something we take really seriously.”

Trump’s tweet came shortly after the CNN segment aired.

While the referral and inspector general reports do not implicate Comey, the president has been on the attack toward his former FBI director in recent days, calling him a “slime ball” and the “worst FBI director in history.”

Comey has spent the past several days giving interviews about his new book, and blasting Trump as “morally unfit,” “untethered to truth” and possibly compromised by Russians.
