George H.W. Bush in intensive care
Former President George H.W. Bush was hospitalized in an intensive care unit on Sunday, one day after his late wife Barbara Bush’s funeral.
“President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood,” Bush’s office said in a statement on Monday. “He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering.”
{mosads}CNN reported Bush was suffering from an infection which led to sepsis, which can be life-threatening.
The news comes days after Bush and his family attended the funeral of former first lady Barbara Bush, who passed away last week at the age of 92 after she decided to seek comfort care instead of medical treatment.
The 41st president mourned his wife of 73 years in a statement last week, calling her “a woman unlike any other.”
“Barbara Bush was a fabulous First Lady and a woman unlike any other who brought levity, love, and literacy to millions,” he said. “To us, she was so much more. Mom kept us on our toes and kept us laughing until then.”
The former first lady’s funeral was attended by former Presidents George W. Bush, Obama and Clinton, along with first lady Melania Trump and former first ladies Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama.
