Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday issued a stark warning to President Trump, saying the U.S. would face severe consequences if Trump pulled out of the multination Iran nuclear deal.

“I am telling those in the White House that if they do not live up to their commitments … the Iranian government will firmly react,” Rouhani said in a speech in the city of Tabriz, according to Reuters.

“If anyone betrays the deal, they should know that they would face severe consequences,” he continued. “Iran is prepared for all possible situations.”

The comments come ahead of the May 12 deadline Trump set to either make conditions in the deal better for the U.S. or to withdraw the U.S. from the multi-nation agreement.

Trump has branded the Obama-era accord as an “embarrassment” and “the worst deal ever negotiated.”

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to push Trump to stay in the deal during his visit to Washington this week.

Macron said in an interview earlier this week that he did not know of any other option if the U.S. decided to leave the deal.

“I don’t have any plan B,” Macron told Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”

“Let’s present this framework because it’s better than the sort of North Korean-type situation.”
