Howard Dean calls neo-Nazis burning swastikas ‘Trump base voters’

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean on Tuesday referred to a group of neo-Nazis rallying in Georgia over the weekend as “Trump base voters.”

Dean, a frequent critic of President Trump, retweeted a link to a Time Magazine article about the neo-Nazi rally with the comment: “Trump base voters.”

Dean, who ran for president in 2004, has had harsh words for the Trump administration in the past, accusing the president of “running a criminal enterprise” out of the White House and referring to his Cabinet as “incompetent doofuses.”

It’s not the first time Dean has made a fiery remark on Twitter.

In September 2016, he posted a message on Twitter that suggested then-candidate Trump’s on-air sniffling was due to cocaine use.

Former Obama strategist David Axelrod was among the Democrats who criticized the remark. Dean later said it had been a mistake to use innuendo but made it clear he was not apologizing to Trump. 

The Time article was about a weekend rally in Newnan, Ga., involving about two dozen members of the National Socialist Movement.

{mosads}Photos and video show the group raising Nazi salutes, chanting “Sig heil” and burning a large swastika in a field about 50 miles outside of Newnan, according to Time.

Hundreds of counter protesters also attended the event. At least 10 counterprotesters were arrested for wearing masks when police invoked a state law originally created to combat the Ku Klux Klan.
