Trump approval rating drops to 39 percent: poll

President Trump’s approval rating dropped to 39 percent in a poll released Wednesday, although some of his Cabinet members received positive approval ratings.

A Quinnipiac University poll, conducted from April 20-24, showed Trump’s approval rating at just 39 percent. That’s down two points from a Quinnipiac poll earlier this month, when 41 percent approved of Trump.

Fifty-four percent of respondents in the new poll disapproved of the job Trump is doing.

At the same time, some members of Trump’s Cabinet — especially his national security team — received mostly positive marks, the poll found. 

{mosads}U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley earned the highest approval rating, with 63 percent of voters giving her positive marks.

Fifty-nine percent said they approve of Defense Secretary James Mattis’s performance. 

Forty-four percent approve of Chief of Staff John Kelly, and 42 percent of voters gave positive marks to CIA Director Mike Pompeo, who is likely to be confirmed soon as the next secretary of State.

Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton received a 37 percent approval rating, while 35 percent said they disapprove of him.

The poll surveyed 1,193 voters and has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

The Trump administration is dealing with a number of national security and foreign policy issues. Trump is expected to meet soon with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un amid efforts to get the country to end its nuclear program.

Meanwhile, the U.S., France and United Kingdom carried out targeted missile strikes earlier this month in Syria in response to a chemical weapons attack on civilians there.

Trump said Tuesday he expects U.S. troops on the ground in Syria will come home “relatively soon.”
