Strzok and Page mourned Comey’s firing, discussed Mueller in recovered text messages

Two FBI officials removed from Robert Mueller’s special counsel probe after exchanging text messages critical of President Trump also texted last year about the firing of former FBI Director James Comey and appointment of Mueller.

CNN reports that in newly recovered text messages delivered to Congress this week, Lisa Page and Peter Strzok mourned Comey and debated Mueller.

“Having a tough time processing tonight, Lis. Feeling a profound sense of loss,” Strzok wrote to Page upon Comey’s firing.

“I feel that same loss. I want to see what the FBI could become under him! His vision of greatness for our strong but flawed organization. I’m angry. Angry and mourning,” Page responded.

In another message, Strzok seems to imply that working on the Mueller investigation could be a beneficial career move for Page, a prosecutor.

“You could go work with Aaron for him … you heard it from me first…. ;),” Strzok told Page. “And go to Wilmer when it’s done,” he added, referring to Mueller’s former law firm.

Other text messages contain shorthand about discussions surrounding the Trump and Clinton investigations which are likely to raise new questions among GOP lawmakers.

“We need to open the case we’ve been waiting on now while Andy is acting,” Strzok wrote in May 2017, referring to an unspecified investigation.

Still others are critical of the White House, remarking after Mueller’s hiring as special prosecutor that White House staff were in panic mode.

“I could hear the shredders in the WH and DoJ running from here,” Strzok texted the morning after his appointment.

The newest batch of Strzok and Page’s texts were delivered to lawmakers this week after months of back-and-forth between the Justice Department and GOP lawmakers in Congress, who allege the texts reveal a broader anti-Trump bias within the nation’s highest law enforcement agency.

The FBI further stoked Republicans’ ire when the agency announced that about five months’ worth of their records of Strzok and Page’s communications were missing due to a glitch that reportedly affected thousands of mobile phones used by the FBI. Those texts were later recovered.
