The FBI is investigating a malicious cyber incident that targeted the bureau’s computer network in its New York office, CNN first reported.
According to sources cited by the outlet, the attack involved a computer system used in investigations of images of child exploitation.
The bureau said Friday the incident has since beencontained but did not provide information on who could be behind the hack.
“The FBI is aware of the incident and is working to gain additional information,” the bureau said in a statement to The Hill. “This is an isolated incident that has been contained. As this is an ongoing investigation, the FBI does not have further comment to provide at this time.”
