CNN’s Jake Tapper ended his show on Friday by reading a list of deadly school shootings that have taken place so far in 2018.

“Before we go today, we wanted to take a minute to remind you that today’s massacre in Texas is just the latest in an all-too-familiar reality in this country,” Tapper said Friday.

The host was responding to the latest school shooting that took place at a Santa Fe, Texas, high school on Friday. Ten people were killed and as many were injured.

{mosads} By CNN’s count, there have been nine deadly shootings on school campuses so far this year.

“Innocent people, many of them children, killed at grade schools and high schools and at colleges,” Tapper said.

Friday’s shooting marks the deadliest school shooting since 17 people were killed at Parkland, Fla.’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14.

Tapper also played a clip of a Santa Fe student saying she was not surprised when a school shooting eventually happened at her school.

“It’s been happening everywhere,” the student, identified only as Paige, said. “I’ve always kind of felt eventually it would happen here, too.”

“That is a statement that would not have been made when I was a kid,” Tapper, 49, reflected.

“Ask yourself, are we failing our children?” he concluded.

An analysis of Defense Department news releases compiled by The Washington Post found that more people have been killed at schools so far in 2018 than have been killed while serving in the U.S. military.
