O’Reilly on Trump lawyers: ‘I don’t know what they’re doing’

Bill O’Reilly on Tuesday said that he is “perplexed” by how President Trump’s legal team is handling the Russia investigation.

“I don’t know what they’re doing in the Russian collusion probe,” O’Reilly tweeted Tuesday morning. “Maybe Trump’s lawyers want WE THE PEOPLE to get so sick of it all that we demand it stop.”

“Maybe that’s the strategy,” the former Fox News host continued. “But to me… button it!”

The New York Times on Saturday revealed that Trump’s lawyers sent Mueller a 20-page letter in January arguing that Trump could not obstruct justice because he has unfettered authority over all federal investigations.

The letter argues that the Constitution gives the president the broad authority to, “if he wished, terminate the inquiry, or even exercise his power to pardon.”

Though O’Reilly has had a long friendship with the president, the conservative commentator has not shied away from publicly criticizing Trump.

In April, O’Reilly slammed Trump for his comments on illegal immigration, following the president’s statements decrying the rape of women coming from Central America.

O’Reilly also criticized Trump after the president claimed that all sides were to blame for the violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., last year.

In an opinion piece written for The Hill, O’Reilly said that had Trump been better educated “as to how German Nazis went about their lethal business,” the Charlottesville shooting “might have been avoided in the sense that zero tolerance for the supremacists could have actually united the country.”

O’Reilly last year was ousted after more than 20 years at Fox News following a report that the network had settled five sexual harassment lawsuits against him for $13 million.

O’Reilly has denied the allegations and his lawyer has said his client was the target of a “smear campaign.”
