Scaramucci in op-ed: Trump ‘largely correct’ on immigration

Former White House director of communications Anthony Scaramucci said in an op-ed on Sunday that President Trump is “largely correct” on immigration, as the administration continues to deal with the fallout from its controversial “zero tolerance” policy.

In the op-ed for USA Today, Scaramucci shifted blame for Trump’s policy of separating families at the southern border onto Trump’s “chief of staff [John Kelly] and Democrats.”

“Because President Trump was largely correct on the issue, he doesn’t face a credibility problem,” Scaramucci wrote. “There is no clean executive solution to border enforcement, and Congress is to blame for the ongoing illegal immigration crisis.”{mosads}

The House last month rejected two GOP immigration bills.

Facing extreme pressure from both sides of the aisle, Trump signed an executive order on June 20 reversing his administration’s policy of separating migrant children from their parents. Recent reports have indicated that federal agencies have been scrambling to follow the order.

Scaramucci previously came out against the zero tolerance policy that resulted in migrant children being separated from their parents.

He called the policy “inhumane” and “cruel.”

“I’m not here to defend the Democrats or the Republicans,” Scaramucci said on CNN’s “New Day.”

“I’m here to say that it’s very bad policy,” Scaramucci said, adding Trump is a “humane guy.”

In the USA Today piece, Scaramucci said “the Democrats, not the president, have the real credibility problem” when it comes to immigration reform.
