Man charged with murder after child dies following stabbing attack on refugees
The suspect accused of a stabbing attack on nine refugees in Idaho was charged with murder on Monday after a child who was among the wounded died as a result of her injuries.
A 30-year-old California man named Timmy Kinner was arrested late Saturday night after allegedly stabbing nine people at a low-income apartment complex where many refugee families live.
A 3-year-old victim was flown to Utah for treatment after the attack but she later died, the Idaho Statesman reported Monday.
{mosads}Authorities believe the suspect returned to the apartment complex where he had been staying seeking revenge after he was kicked out on Friday.
The assault occurred at a 3-year-old’s birthday party, the Statesman reported.
It is described by police as the largest stabbing attack in Idaho’s history.
“This is an attack against those who are most vulnerable, our children,” Boise Police Chief Bill Bones said after the attack. “It’s untenable, unconscionable and is pure evil in my mind.”
It is not immediately clear whether all of the victims were refugees, Bones added.
Another child was released from the hospital, but seven other victims remain in medical care.
Police are not providing the Statesman with regular updates on the victims conditions, the newspaper noted.
Kinner was originally booked into the Ada County Jail on nine counts of felony aggravated battery and six counts of felony injury to a child.
He is being held without bail.
