Warriors coach mocks reported NRA financial trouble: ‘Thoughts and prayers should suffice’
Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr mocked the National Rifle Association (NRA) late Friday following the group’s warning in a lawsuit that it faces serious financial trouble.
“Don’t send money … thoughts and prayers should suffice,” tweeted Kerr, a vocal critic of the NRA as well as of President Trump.

Lawmakers drew backlash following a string of shootings earlier this year for offering “thoughts and prayers” to victims instead of acting to pass new gun control measures.

The NRA detailed its alleged financial difficulties in a recent lawsuit filed against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and state officials, with the group warning of financial hardship after a New York regulatory decision pressured financial institutions to cut ties with the NRA.
The gun rights group claims in the lawsuit that the state engaged in a “political and discriminatory campaign” against the NRA that resulted in the loss of businesses relationships “necessary to the survival of the NRA as a charitable organization.”
Kerr has spoken out against the NRA before. In February, following a mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla., the San Francisco Bay-area coach called for helping elect candidates who do “not just bow down to the NRA.”
“Nothing has been done. It doesn’t seem to matter to our government that children are being shot to death day after day in schools,” he said. “But we can do something about it. We can vote people in who actually have the courage to protect people’s lives and not just bow down to the NRA because they’ve financed their campaign for them.”
