Man accused of threatening Scalise had ammo, bomb info

Police found a stockpile of ammunition and books on how to design bombs in the home of a man accused of threatening lawmakers, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.).

Carlos Bayon reportedly had 150 rounds of ammunition for a 7.62-millimeter rifle as well as 50 shotgun rounds, according to the New Orleans Times Picayune.

Police did not find any firearms, but they did locate receipts for an SKS rifle and a .38-caliber revolver, purchased in 2004 and 1987 respectively.

An affidavit from the investigators said they also found books on building silencers for guns and for building bombs.

Bayon was arrested last week for allegedly leaving threatening voicemails for Scalise and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.).

“Hey listen, this message is for you and the people that sent you there. You are taking ours, we are taking yours. Anytime, anywhere. We know where they are,” the voicemail to Scalise said, according to Buffalo ABC affiliate WKBW. “We are not going to feed them sandwiches, we are going to feed them lead. Make no mistake you will pay. Ojo por ojo, diente por deinte [Spanish for “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”]. That is our law and we are the majority. Have a good day.”

The voicemails were left on June 30.

Bayon, who lives in New York state, is charged with making threats across state lines.
