Progressive activist Igor Volsky on Monday called domestic abuse allegations against Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) troubling.
“People are very troubled. People take this very seriously,” Volksy, who is the founder of gun control group Guns Down, told Hill.TV’s Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“On one hand, it’s coming out now and he’s in this election, so people are asking what’s going on there, but on the other hand, these are serious allegations,” he continued.
“I think it’s very serious, and if as people continue to look into this, and [if] there’s an actual criminal case that can be made against this, that’s certainly going to create some trouble for him, and he has to decide whether or not he wants to continue, now, I think, in this race,” he said.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that Austin Aslim Monahan said in a Facebook post on Saturday that he watched a video of Ellison dragging his mother, Karen Monahan, off a bed while yelling profanities at her.
A post from a Twitter account appearing to belong to Karen Monahan confirmed Austin Aslim Monahan’s account.
What my son said is true. Every statement he made was true.@keithellison, you know you did that to me. I have given every opportunity to get help and heal. Even now, u r willing to say my son is lying and have me continue to leak more text and info just so others will believe him

Ellison, who had dated Karen Monahan, denied the allegations on Sunday.
“Karen and I were in a relationship which ended in 2016, and I still care deeply for her well-being,” Ellison said in a statement to the paper. “This video does not exist because I never behaved in this way, and any characterization otherwise is false.”
The allegations come amid Ellison’s run for Minnesota attorney general.
He is expected to remain in his post as deputy director at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) during his state office bid.
