CNN media reporter Dylan Byers is jumping to NBC News and MSNBC, according to a Thursday announcement.

Byers, who came to CNN from Politico in Sept. 2015, will join the NBCUniversal-owned outlets next month.

At NBC/MSNBC, Byers will focus on technology in media.

Byers launched a new newsletter earlier this year called “Pacific,” which “covers the business, culture and politics of innovation, and the people and companies changing the world,” according to the CNNMoney website.

“The impact of big tech is far-reaching – changing our culture, politics, commerce and much more. Naturally, Dylan will focus on Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, and Netflix, but he’ll also keep a sharp eye on emerging players,” said NBC News President Noah Oppenheim and MSNBC President Phil Griffin in a staff memo. “His work will appear across all our television and digital platforms, including the newly redesigned Tech & Media vertical on NBCNews.com, and he will of course continue his essential newsletter.”

“He will be joining us during an exciting time for our tech and business teams, who have amassed dozens of exclusives this year and are adding to that tally every day,” Griffin and Oppenheim added.

Byers announced the news on Twitter and thanked CNN president Jeff Zucker and the head of CNN global digital business, Andrew Morse.

NBC and MSNBC have built out their media reporting in recent years with the additions of Claire Atkinson from the New York Post and via contributors including Gabriel Sherman of Variety and Ben Smith of Buzzfeed.
