MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski hit back at President Trump on Thursday, calling Trump’s prediction that NBC News Chairman Andy Lack is about to be fired “stupid rumors.”

Brzezinski’s response came shortly after the president fired off several tweets lambasting the media, including one in which he called NBC News “the worst.”

{mosads}”What’s going on at @CNN is happening, to different degrees, at other networks — with @NBCNews being the worst,” Trump tweeted early Thursday morning. “The good news is that Andy Lack(y) is about to be fired(?) for incompetence, and much worse. When Lester Holt got caught fudging my tape on Russia, they were hurt badly!”

Trump was not specific in defining how Holt “got caught fudging” a tape that appears to refer to the president’s interview with the “NBC Nightly News” anchor shortly after he fired then-FBI Director James Comey in May 2017.

Brzezinski defended Lack and Holt, calling the tweet “importantly stupid.”

She also suggested that Trump is seeking to “shape the truth around the reality that he wants people to believe.”

“Not only is he attacking NBC’s chairman Andy Lack, our boss, with stupid rumors, but also he’s going after the truth,” she said shortly after Trump’s tweet was posted.

“Attacking NBC News, saying that Lester Holt got caught fudging the interview. He’s trying to shape the truth around the reality that he wants people to believe,” she added.

The president has openly speculated about Lack’s job security before, tweeting in November that top executives at NBC and Comcast, the network’s parent company, should “check out Andy Lack’s past.”

“Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for ‘inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace. But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack’s past!” he tweeted.
