Laura Ingraham: Neil Armstrong movie ‘trashing patriotism’ by leaving out American flag planting

Fox News host Laura Ingraham is saying a new movie about Neil Armstrong that leaves out the astronaut planting the American flag on the moon is “trashing patriotism.”

“It’s another way of trashing patriotism,” Ingraham said on her Friday broadcast. “It’s another way of moving beyond the nationalism, or nationalistic spirit of the moment.”

“My feeling is, you’re doing a biopic, stick to the facts,” Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo responded. “He planted an American flag. Plant an American flag.”

{mosads}Ingraham’s comments came after actor Ryan Gosling told reporters that conversations with Armstrong’s family led him and the studio to believe that the famous astronaut did not view himself as an “American hero.”

“I think this was widely regarded in the end as a human achievement [and] that’s how we chose to view it,” he told reporters. “I also think Neil was extremely humble, as were many of these astronauts, and time and time again he deferred the focus from himself to the 400,000 people who made the mission possible.”

A small movement encouraging Americans to boycott the movie was circulating on Twitter Saturday morning.

The movie about the 1969 moon landing, “First Man,” is scheduled to be released nationwide on Oct. 12, and is being distributed by Universal Pictures/DreamWorks Studios.
