Millennials improving workforce through ‘honest communication,’ says CEO

Zip Recruiter co-founder and CEO Ian Siegel praised the role millennials play in the modern workforce in an interview that aired Thursday on “Rising.”

“They are really comfortable networking. They are really comfortable communicating with each other, and so I think they’re actually bringing more honest communication to the workforce, and that is a benefit,” Siegel told Hill.TV’s Buck Sexton.

Siegel attributed millennials’ experience growing up and working with social media to their communications skills.

He went onto say that social media has made millennials more well-rounded than baby boomers and Gen Xers.

“It used to be that if you were going to take a job, you had to be an expert on the Microsoft Suite services, things like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel,” Siegel said.

“In the modern age, it’s equally as important that you be comfortable on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. So this generation has a unique advantage over all past generations because they’re as comfortable with software as they are with social networking,” he continued.

Millennials are expected to have a large impact on the workforce for the foreseeable future.

Thirty-five percent of U.S. labor force participants are millennials, making them the largest group of employees, according to the Pew Research Center.

Their use of social media is also likely to have a long-lasting impact on the workforce, with 85 percent saying they use social media, according to Pew.
