Milwaukee County GOP mocks Kavanaugh accusation, says Ginsburg claimed Lincoln ‘grabbed my ass’

Greg Nash

The Milwaukee County GOP reportedly mocked the sexual assault accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh with a tweet featuring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg as saying Abraham Lincoln “grabbed my ass.”

The Milwaukee County Republicans posted a tweet that read “Abraham Lincoln grabbed my ass in 1862” with a corresponding image of Ginsburg on Monday, according the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

{mosads} The newspaper reported that the post was later deleted after it contacted the county party’s chairman.

Milwaukee County Republican Party chairman Sam Hagedorn did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the newspaper. The county office did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill.

The tweet prompted considerable backlash from Democrats and advocates for sexual assault victims.

“It’s clear that sexual harassment is a joke to them,” state Rep. JoCasta Zamarripa (D) said to the Journal Sentinel. “I can’t imagine what it’s like to have to endure this public humiliation.”

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) made light of the allegations against Kavanaugh with a similar joke last week.

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg came out saying she was groped by Abraham Lincoln,” Norman quipped about the 85-year-old Supreme Court Justice last week at an election debate.

The two incidents come as Kavanaugh faces increased scrutiny after two women have accused him of sexual misconduct.

On Sunday, The New Yorker published a report in which a woman, Deborah Ramirez, accused Kavanaugh of exposing himself in front of her and forcing her to touch his penis during a party at Yale in the 1980s.

That is the second allegation involving Kavanaugh after college professor Christine Blasey Ford came forward publicly to describe an alleged sexual assault by the Supreme Court nominee while the two were in high school.

Kavanaugh has strongly denied the claims from both Ford and Ramirez.

Ford and Kavanaugh are scheduled to testify regarding the charges on Thursday. But Senate Democrats have called for the hearing to be postponed following the new allegation from Ramirez.

The White House has also said that it is willing to allow Kavanaugh’s second accuser, Ramirez, to testify.
