Meteorologist wears her toddler to work in support of working mothers
A meteorologist’s weather forecast has gone viral after she wore her year-old son to work to promote baby-wearing and to support working mothers.
Susie Martin, director of operations and a meteorologist for Praedictix, reported the weather forecast on the company’s Facebook page last week with her toddler strapped to her back.
{mosads}Martin told “Good Morning America” that she wore her son on Oct. 5 during “International Babywearing Week” and hopes to encourage other working parents to do the same.
“I wanted to promote this wonderful tool that’s helped me as a mom and the bonding experience between mother and son,” she said. “I suppose it’s a way for the baby to be comforted. It was nice for me personally because I could multitask while comforting my child.”
The working mom also answered questions on the Praedictix blog after the video notched more than one million views.
Martin described baby-wearing as “incredibly liberating” for her and “a source of comfort and calmness” for her child.
She said she also wore her son during International Babywearing Week the previous year and is “fortunate” to have worked for companies that allow her to do so.
The debate over babies in the workplace reached Capitol Hill earlier this year, when Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) became the first senator to give birth while in office.
After the birth of Duckworth’s daughter, Maile, the Senate voted to change rules to allow babies on the Senate floor. Duckworth later brought her daughter to the floor while she voted.
