Police and FBI agents on Wednesday searched the home of a New York man whom authorities allege was building a bomb to blow himself up in Washington, D.C., according to the local NBC affiliate.

Authorities told the network that the man, Paul Rosenfeld, was gathering parts for a explosive device.

He had told a reporter that he planned to blow himself up on Election Day in D.C. because he was irate about the current direction the U.S. has taken, officials said.

Investigators also stated that they believe Rosenfeld was acting alone, without an affiliation to any larger group or ideology.
