President Trump on Monday denied that he offered Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) $1 million to take a test proving her Native American heritage, even though he did just that.

Trump spoke after Warren responded to the president’s challenge and released the results of a DNA test showing she has a distant Native ancestor.

{mosads}”I didn’t say that. You’d better read it again,” Trump told reporters at the White House when asked about his $1 million offer.

Responding to a question about Warren’s test, Trump said, “Who cares?”

During a campaign rally on July 5, Trump taunted Warren for her claims of Native American ancestry, a staple of his campaign stump speeches.

“I will give you a million dollars, to your favorite charity, paid for by Trump, if you take the test and it shows you’re an Indian,” Trump said at the time. “I have a feeling she will say ‘no.’ ”

In a series of tweets on Monday, Warren called on Trump to pay the $1 million to charity.

“NIWRC is a nonprofit working to protect Native women from violence,” Warren said, referring to the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. “More than half of all Native women have experienced sexual violence, and the majority of violent crimes against Native Americans are perpetrated by non-Natives. Send them your $1M check.”

Warren is seen as a possible Democratic opponent for Trump in the 2020 presidential election, and Trump reiterated his belief he would easily defeat the Massachusetts senator if she chooses to run.

Trump was speaking before traveling to Florida and Georgia to tour damage from Hurricane Michael.
