US-led coalition strikes another Syrian mosque used by ISIS fighters

The U.S.-led coalition in Syria on Monday struck a Syrian mosque being used by Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters as a command center.

The strike was the second coalition attack in less than a week on a mosque being used by ISIS as a “fighting position,” the coalition said.

{mosads}”Daesh demonstrates desperation and the willingness to misuse protected structures to launch military attacks against SDF and Coalition forces,” the coalition said in a statement, referring to the group by their Arabic name.

SDF refers to the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The mosque was one of several buildings targeted by the Monday airstrike, according to the statement.

“Daesh continues to violate the Law of Armed Conflict and misuse religious sites,” the statement adds.

“Coalition strikes will continue to target Daesh in the Middle Euphrates River Valley, as the Coalition and SDF advance to defeat Daesh in their self-proclaimed caliphate.”

The U.S. has been conducting air strikes in Syria since 2014.
