Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Sunday said he does not think X owner Elon Musk is serious about a potential “cage fight” and “it’s time to move on.”

“I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on,” Zuckerberg wrote in a post on his Threads social media platform.

“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously,” Zuckerberg added.

Zuckerberg’s post comes after weeks of speculation over a potential cage match between the two tech billionaires. In June, Musk said he was “up for a cage match if [Zuckerberg] is.”

But early last week, Musk said the exact timing of the match was “in flux” because of possible minor surgery.

And Friday, he teased an “epic location,” which he said he confirmed with Italian officials.

“Livestream will be on this platform and Meta. Everything in camera frame will be ancient Rome, so nothing modern at all,” Musk wrote on X, formerly called Twitter. Musk also said the fight would be managed by the billionaires’ foundations, rather than UFC.

Zuckerberg, however, scoffed at Musk’s remarks Friday and indicated he did not think a cage fight would ever come to fruition.

“I love this sport and I’ve been ready to fight since the day Elon challenged me. If he ever agrees on an actual date, you’ll hear it from me,” Zuckerberg wrote on Threads. “Until then, please assume anything he says has not been agreed on.”

In his Sunday post, Zuckerberg continued to express doubt that Musk will agree to the event.

“I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity. Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,” Zuckerberg wrote.
