Watch live: White House holds press briefing

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday afternoon will hold the daily press briefing.

President Biden has stepped up his attacks on former President Trump this week, hitting him over his Oval Office record at a time when the two increasingly appear headed toward a White House rematch in 2024. While he didn’t say Trump’s name directly, the personal jabs were hard to miss.

In a Labor Day speech in Philadelphia, the president said “the last guy” to hold his office had “looked at the world from Park Avenue” and was “shipping jobs to China.”

On Friday, Biden claimed “America was losing jobs” under the Trump administration and that the former president was “one of only two presidents in history who entered his presidency and left with fewer jobs than when he entered.”

The hits come as Biden works to build the argument that the economy is stronger, not weaker, under his leadership.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
