Michelle Obama: Queen Elizabeth told me royal protocol is ‘all rubbish’
Former first lady Michelle Obama revealed Monday that Queen Elizabeth II once told her that royal protocol in England is “all rubbish.”
Obama told British news agency Press Association that she was worried about protocol when she was about to be picked up by the British monarch in 2016 ahead of a trip to Windsor Castle, CNN reported.
{mosads}”So I had all this protocol buzzing in my head, and I was like ‘don’t trip down the stairs and don’t touch anybody, whatever you do,’ ” Obama said. “And so the Queen says ‘just get in, sit wherever’ and she’s telling you one thing and you’re remembering protocol and she says ‘Oh it’s all rubbish, just get in.’ “
Obama also revealed that her husband, former President Obama, is a “huge fan” of the queen.
“She’s smart and funny and honest,” Michelle Obama said.
The former first lady was in London as part of a promotional tour for her memoir “Becoming,” which hit shelves last month and quickly became the best-selling hardcover book of 2018.
