Chris Cuomo show gets top ratings on CNN
“Cuomo Prime Time” has become the most-watched show on CNN, again drawing more viewers than any other program on the network in the month of November, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Chris Cuomo, who co-anchored CNN’s morning program “New Day” after coming over from ABC News in 2013, launched his prime-time program in June. It has since been the highest-rated program on CNN each month.
In November, Cuomo averaged his highest total viewers to date, delivering 1.288 million at 9 p.m.
{mosads}The numbers still place Cuomo in third place behind competitors Sean Hannity on Fox News and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC.
In November, “Hannity” was the most-watched show in cable news, coming in with an average of 3.026 million viewers. Maddow was second with 2.9 million. Cuomo’s program finished 23rd overall.
In the 25-54 demographic, however, Cuomo placed ninth, with 381,000 viewers in the category. Hannity and Maddow finished 1-2 in the demographic, with 571,000 and 539,000 viewers respectively.
In the cable news ratings race in prime time overall, Fox News averaged 2.439 million viewers. MSNBC was second, with 1.835 million, and CNN third, with 1.119 million.
In the 25-54 demographic in prime time, Fox News delivered 478,000 viewers to CNN’s 374,000 and MSNBC’s 332,000.
Cuomo’s producer, Melanie Buck, told Variety in a story published Wednesday that people retreating “to their corners during partisan times” may be one reason Hannity and Maddow are performing so well from a ratings perspective.
“Those shows have been on for a number of years, and as Chris likes to say, people retreat to their corners in partisan times,” said Buck, a former executive producer for Jake Tapper’s “State of the Union.”
”We are not telling people one side what they want to hear,” she said.
