Rick Scott marks ‘Bald is Beautiful Day’ by welcoming Mike Lee into the club

Sen. Mike Lee is boldly — and baldly — accepting an invitation from his Senate colleague to join an exclusive and closely-cropped club: lawmakers who embrace no hair on their heads.

Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) name-checked the Utah Republican in a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday.

“Today is one of the most important days of the year. It’s a day that we can all really be excited about. It’s a day that we talk about intelligence, we talk about bravery, we talk about every attribute that’s important,” Scott deadpanned.

“There’s not a lot of days that we get to induct a new member, especially in the U.S. Senate,” the 70-year-old former Florida governor continued, before inviting Lee to join “this esteemed group.”

“What today’s about – it’s ‘Bald is Beautiful Day’ – and Mike finally made it,” Scott declared.

“It was a hard journey for Mike, took him a long time. He sacrificed a lot when he got the haircut. But he’s in it,” Scott said with pride.

“Bald is beautiful. Welcome, Mike,” Scott said.

Lee entered the upper chamber in 2011 with dark brown locks, but in more recent weeks has sported a nearly-bare head. But in a response video to Scott, the lawmaker appeared to champion joining the chrome dome crew.

“Thanks so much for the invitation, for the nomination to join that club,” Lee, 52, exclaimed.

“I accept your nomination,” Lee said with a slight grin, “and I very much look forward to a life of being much more aerodynamic than I was in the past.”
