Trump pitches border wall, rips Dems as shutdown deadline nears

President Trump on Monday tweeted that any Democrat who says the U.S. can have border security without a wall can be written off “as just another politician following the party line.”

Trump tweeted the remark days before a Dec. 21 deadline for funding the government. The demands for wall funding threaten to close parts of the government on Saturday.

{mosads}”Anytime you hear a Democrat saying that you can have good Boarder Security without a Wall, write them off as just another politician following the party line,” he wrote on Twitter. “Time for us to save billions of dollars a year and have, at the same time, far greater safety and control!”

Trump has been pushing for Congress to approve $5 billion in funding for the wall. Congress needs to pass a series of funding bills by Dec. 21 to avoid a partial government shutdown. Democrats have refused to provide the $5 billion.

Trump last week said he would be “proud” to shut down the government over the wall funding.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security,” Trump told House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) during a public meeting inside the Oval Office last week.

“I will take the mantle,” he added. “I will be the one to shut it down, I’m not going to blame you for it.”
