Corker responds to Trump tweet: ‘Alert the daycare staff’

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) blasted President Trump on Sunday after Trump claimed that the Republican was forced to retire after not getting the president’s support.

“Yes, just like Mexico is paying for the wall,” Corker tweeted, before using the hashtag “#AlertTheDaycareStaff.”

Corker has been repeatedly critical of the Trump administration, and has previously referred to the White House as “an adult day care center.”

The latest statement from Corker came after Trump ripped into the senator over an earlier Sunday show appearance in a pair of tweets.{mosads}

“Senator Bob Corker just stated that, ‘I’m so [privileged] to serve in the Senate for twelve years, and that’s what I told the people of our state that’s what I’d do, serve for two terms.’ But that is Not True – wanted to run but poll numbers TANKED when I wouldn’t endorse him,” Trump tweeted earlier Sunday.

“Bob Corker was responsible for giving us the horrible Iran Nuclear Deal, which I ended, yet he badmouths me for wanting to bring our young people safely back home,” Trump continued, referencing his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria.

“Bob wanted to run and asked for my endorsement. I said NO and the game was over. #MAGA I LOVE TENNESSEE!” he continued.

Earlier on Sunday, Corker called the standoff over a border wall that has shut down federal agencies a “made-up fight” that is more about Trump scoring political points.

Trump has demanded that Congress provide $5 billion for his long-sought wall along the southern border in a new spending bill. The failure to reach an agreement on the topic by Friday led to a partial government shutdown that could last for days.

“This is a made-up fight so the president can look like he’s fighting but even if he wins, our borders are going to be insecure,” Corker said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Corker announced earlier this year that he would not run for reelection. Trump has repeatedly claimed that Corker decided to retire because he didn’t have Trump’s support.

But last year, Corker’s chief of staff Todd Womack claimed that Trump had pushed the Tennessee senator to run again and offered his endorsement should Corker decide to do so.
