EU official trolls UK over Brexit with Spice Girls lyrics

An official for the European Union (EU) on Tuesday trolled the U.K. after British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit plan failed to pass by reciting lyrics from the hit British girl group Spice Girls.

Margaritis Schinas, a spokesman for the European Commission, threw in a line from the band’s 1995 song “Wannabe” during a speech in Belgium. 

“The withdrawal agreement was agreed with the U.K. government, with the EU27. It is now on the table, it is not open for negotiation and we expect the United Kingdom to tell us what they want,” Schinas said, before pausing.

“What they really, really want,” he added with a smile.

The British Parliament earlier this month voted overwhelmingly against May’s deal to leave the European Union. It is unclear what will happen next, as Britain’s departure from the international coalition had been scheduled to take place on March 29.{mosads}

May on Monday rejected the idea of holding a second Brexit referendum among voters, saying it could “damage social cohesion.”

In 2016, about 52 percent of voters in Britain supported Brexit in a referendum.
