Democrats want to ‘tear down that wall’

Democrats have hijacked the famous words of President Ronald Reagan to “tear down that wall” between East and West Berlin, and applied it to the southern border between Mexico and the United States. The logical outcome of the left’s cries that a wall is “racist” and “immoral” is that Democrats will tear down all the walls on the southern border when they take power. That is a scary outcome of the current debate, and left-wing Democrats should never be allowed the levers of power to eradicate border security.

The left is so intent on opposing everything President Donald Trump stands for that they will oppose any and all asks by the president, no matter how reasonable the request. Democrats have spent time partying in Puerto Rico and scheduling political-posturing junkets to Afghanistan, all while refusing to negotiate with the president on border security. America deserves a solution on the issue of securing the southern border, and we can’t afford to have the government closed forever while Democrats refuse to negotiate.

Democrats have lost their collective minds in opposing everything the president proposes. The leader of the Democratic Party, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said about the president’s request for border security that “a wall, in my view, is an immorality.” This is pure insanity. The logical outcome of “immoral” walls is that Democrats are the party that opposes all border walls and would likely support their removal entirely. This is a fringe idea.{mosads}

If John F. Kennedy were to run for the presidential nomination in today’s Democratic Party, he would hardly be a credible candidate. As president, Kennedy cut taxes, was tough on communist Cuba and held tougher views on immigration. The Democratic Party of today would laugh at a moderate like JFK, because it prefers the socialist policies of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and the anti-business rhetoric of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Democrats have been captured by the democratic socialist wing of the party, and there doesn’t seem to be any change on the horizon.

It was not that long ago that the left wing of the Democratic Party pushed to abolish the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency. New Democratic leaders like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) campaigned on attacks against federal immigration law enforcement officials. The message of abolishing ICE and tearing down all safeguards in place on the southern border has become the Democratic Party’s platform in this new Congress. It has gone off the deep end, and many moderate Democrats must cry in their sleep that their party has been taken over by left-wingers.

I cohost a podcast with David Bossie, former deputy campaign manager for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, and in our latest episode we expressed shock at how Democrats have gone so far to defend the “right” of criminal aliens to remain in sanctuary cities while ignoring the tragic stories of Americans who have lost loved ones to crimes committed by individuals illegally in the country. They refuse to give an inch, and they will pay a high political price with the American people come 2020. Voters like border security and don’t want open borders with any nation. Expect quite a few freshman representatives to be kicked to the curb when Americans better understand that many of the new Democrats in Congress are on the extreme fringes of the party.

This past weekend, President Trump made an offer to Democrats that they rejected before the announcement even took place. The president offered “a common-sense compromise both parties should embrace.” He was speaking to the last remaining moderate Democrats that have lost control of the party to the radical left.{mossecondads}

The Trump plan, he said, “includes the following: $800 million in urgent humanitarian assistance; $805 million for drug detection technology to help secure our ports of entry; an additional 2,750 border agents and law enforcement professionals; 75 new immigration judge teams to reduce the court backlog of, believe it or not, almost 900,000 cases.” The plan further “includes critical measures to protect migrant children from exploitation and abuse. This includes a new system to allow Central American minors to apply for asylum in their home countries, and reform to promote family reunification for unaccompanied children, thousands of whom wind up on our border doorstep.” Finally the offer “includes $5.7 billion for a strategic deployment of physical barriers, or a wall. This is not a 2,000-mile concrete structure from sea to sea. These are steel barriers in high-priority locations.” This is a reasonable offer, yet Democrats already have rejected it.

Getting the government back to work by coming to an agreement on border security is being blocked by an “immoral” Democratic leadership more than anything else. Democrats need to come back to the table and abandon the crazy rhetoric. If they don’t come back to negotiate soon, they will pay a high political price — and 2020 isn’t that far away.
