Political analyst says a crisis would force GOP, Dems to work together to reopen government

Political analyst Bill Schneider said in an interview that aired Wednesday on “What America’s Thinking” that a crisis is likely one of the only ways for a divided government to end a situation like a government shutdown.

“How do you get something done out of a Congress in a situation like this with divided power? Simple. You need a crisis,” Schneider told Hill.TV’s Joe Concha.

“When a crisis hits, suddenly, people jump into place. They recognize they better do something or else they’ll be thrown out of office,” he continued. “When a crisis hits, things happen.”

The government shutdown is in its fifth week, with no end in sight.

Thousands of federal workers are about to miss their second paycheck, and the workflow of government agencies has been negatively affected.

The Transportation Security Administration, for example, has requested backup from its workforce at airports with low staffing due to the shutdown.

The shutdown is the result of a disagreement between Republicans and Democrats over border wall funding.
